I love this! I have a BA in English Literature from a California university and seeing your list makes me want to go through my old books and syllabi.

I found it interesting to compare your reading list with mine from 20 years ago, in a very liberal arts school. The courses we choose to take also effects the reading list. And i didn't realize at the time how much that reading list would shape how i saw the world years after graduating.

Super interesting to see! I'm also from the UK and always regretted not doing my BA in English Lit (but have ended up doing a master's in Creative Writing instead, so it worked out in the end!) Love how these courses force us to expand our horizons and read beyond what we're used to.

I majored in English in an Irish university in late 90s. We had a lot of old and middle English modules, which were mandatory. I preferred the more contemporary end of the spectrum from the mid-1800s onwards. And we had film modules, which were a new option, and opened up the world of film to me. We had great lecturers, and it made the three years for me.
